Temple Economics

We have brandished candles and carcasses
and set the water burning;
we have have not ceased the recitation of the prayers
(or is it our prayers
which have not ceased reciting us?)

Yet our formulas swing
at inauspicious angles
And schizophrenic money-traders
are playing a shell game
with bodies and souls on loan
from the Lord of Awful Fire
