Too Like The Lightning
I'm on my fourth reading currently. I've never read a series like this before. never read like this before I mean. the closest I can think of is reading the Bible on the church's 3 year cycle. when I finish the fourth book I go back to the first. I read it every day. it's like Infinite Jest, the impossibly captivating television show that people keep binging until they die because it's just that good. fortunately Terra Ignota hasn't caused me to starve or dehydrate myself, if anything it's given me the strength to keep going. and I'm still reading other books--the two I finished yesterday, Gideon the Ninth, I'm resuming the Books of Jacob, and listening to any podcast or lecture I can find by Ada Palmer.
the books are a theodicy, an argument for how Providence could exist in our world, with all its unforgivable cruelty, without sacrificing an avenue for hope. that simultaneous honesty and hope is a salve to my grief for Balreet, my grief about everything.
